Meet The Coaches

At Riverside all of our coaches are passionate about providing great quality coaching with an emphasis on enjoying the sport. We share the goal of teaching good fundamentals, both technically and tactically, to ensure players can make lasting improvements to their game.
All of our coaches have played to at least a County standard. Whilst we don't think playing standard impacts coaching ability that much, our coaches are some of the best players in the area and can hit with more or less anyone.

Carolyn Barry
Head Coach
Our Club Coach, Carolyn Barry, is responsible for organising and coordinating our extensive coaching programme and also runs many of our development sessions.
Carolyn represented Kent as a junior before moving to Salisbury and representing Wiltshire.
Carolyn loves helping people to play and enjoy tennis. Alongside running the programme, Carolyn finds time to organise all the junior teams for tournaments and matches.

Jay Barry
Level 3 Licenced Coach
Jamie Barry has won the Men's Singles title four times and regularly competes for Riverside. As much as he loves playing tennis, Jamie gets more of a kick out of coaching others and helping them to enjoy the game as much as he does.
He is enthusiastic about providing everyone with the opportunity to get involved in tennis whilst helping those already in the game to achieve their goals.
Jamie mostly delivers individual lessons to performance players and has represented Wiltshire on many occasions.

Karina Weedon
Level 4 Licenced Coach
Karina Weedon is our most experienced coach, having coached for almost 30 years. She has represented Wiltshire at all levels. She is currently the County Over 50's Captain and Riverside Ladies A Captain.
Karina is extremely passionate about tennis and is just as happy working with beginners as she is performance players.
Karina's coaching style is based around installing the fundamentals of technique and footwork, giving a strong base for an all round game. Karina has a strong interest in doubles tactics and runs practices for both Riverside and the County teams.

Mike Barry
Level 3 Licenced Coach
Mike has been coaching for seven years at Riverside. He is a strong technical coach and runs the majority of the performance programme at the club. He is passionate about helping players reach their full potential whilst enjoying tennis.
His coaching style is heavily influenced by Spanish coaching methods, with a focus on developing footwork and techniques required to effectively use a range of tactics and patterns of play.

Cameron Simpson
LTA Level 1 Assistant Coach
Over the last few years Cam has established himself as one of the top players in the club and county. Cam's enthusiasm for tennis is incredibly obvious to everyone.
Cam is available for individual buddy hits at the club and is just as confident working with beginners as he is performance players looking to supplement their programme.

Tennis Leaders
The Tennis Leader qualification is a coaching qualification for young people aged thirteen or over. Tennis Leaders help with group coaching sessions, tournaments and are available for one to one 'Buddy Hitting' sessions, using a lesson plan provided by one of the main coaches.
Buddy hitting provides a good value way to get structured practice and a good hit with one of the clubs best juniors. It is ideal to supplement other coaching sessions, giving players more opportunity to practice what they have been working on in their regular lessons. If you would like to arrange a buddy hitting session please get in touch with Carolyn.
