5 YEAR PLAN
REVIEW
JAN 2025

Review of 5 Year Plan 2022 to 2027 & 10 Year Facility Development Plan 2022 to 2032

Building on Success

2021 was one of the most successful years in Riverside's history. Following recent facility developments such as the resurfacing of courts 1-3 as artificial grass and building courts 7-8, membership grew to an all time high.

The LTA awarding us the 'South West Club of the Year' award was the icing on the cake.

What was apparent going into 2022 was that the club was changing. It was moving from what at times felt like an oversized, small club, to a medium sized club. The demands on the committee and its volunteers were increasing and it became clear that a proper plan was needed to ensure the club could operate as well as possible in the future. We drew up our Five Year Business Plan 2022-2027 and a 10 Year Facility Development Plan 2022-2032.

2022- 2024 Development, Consolidation and Re-Focus

Facility developments in the next three years included:

  • An artificial grass surface installed on Court 4 in 2022

  • Wingfield Net technology installed on Court 4 in 2023

  • Courts 5 and 6 (hard courts) resurfaced in 2024

  • LED floodlighting to all courts installed/upgraded in 2022

The Club and our coaching team went from strength to strength. In 2024 the club was awarded LTA Youth Accreditation status, following recognition for Riverside in 2023 as the LTA Wiltshire Club of the Year.

We also worked on our management, making it more focused and rigorous, with our processes, policies and role descriptions reviewed and risk assessments updated. In our business plan we had 57 actions, of which 24 were implemented and the ongoing elements are now embedded in our club management roles. With 14 more actions completed or superseded, 19 remained at the end of 2024, which seemed the right time to revise our business plan,

with renewed focus on our route to success.

  • Maintaining suitable governance to run the club effectively

  • Anticipating and planning for the future and actively seeking new opportunities

Facility Developments

In December 2024, members’ opinions were sought on their priorities for future development, bearing in mind the need for timely maintenance of the surfaces of Courts 7 and 8, the available finances, and the number of volunteers forthcoming. The Development Committee will assess, research, cost, and prioritise proposals before the Club decides which to take forward and include in our plan. All ideas are dependent on member support, funding, appropriate local consultation and necessary planning permission.

Action Plan

The revised Action Plan has 11 new actions in addition to the 19 carried forward.

13 actions relate to further strengthening of our management processes, 2 to promoting the Club and its activities, and 5 to preservation of our facilities. 5 actions relate to competitions, coaching and maximising the opportunities of the LTA Youth Accreditation Scheme, and 5 to planning for the future.

Acknowldegements

The 2022–2027 Business Plan (incorporating a 10 year Facility Development Plan) was developed considering the market conditions and the available financial and human resource required to realise the outcomes contained within it, and was adopted by the Management Committee in March 2022. The Plan is a live document, and it is acknowledged that the focus, dates and actions may change at periodic reviews.

Following a review of the Plan at the end of 2024, and as a result of the successful delivery of a significant number of the actions outlined in the original Plan, a revision to the 2022–2027 Business Plan was adopted by the Management Committee in January 2025.

The success of the first three years of the plan is testament to the commitment and hard work of the Management Committee, Lead Officers, Sub-Committees, Coaching Team and the volunteers that have supported the club over that time.

Subject to variations caused by factors beyond the control of Riverside Tennis Club, a commitment is undertaken to strive towards realising the outcomes of the revised Plan.

Do You Want To Get Involved

At Riverside we are extremely lucky to have so many members who are willing to give up their time to help out the club.  This helps us keep the cost of running the club down which in turn means lower membership fees for everyone! We are always on the look out for anyone who wants to get involved. Whether you want to be on the maintenance rotor, join a committee, run a social event or anything else - please get in touch.
