FINALS WEEKEND
2022

Finals Weekend 2022

The first weekend of September is always the most important in the diary for Riverside members. Final’s weekend never disappoints. Once again we were blessed with good weather, great cakes and even better tennis!

What stood out the most over the weekend was the level of the juniors. Not only did they impress in their junior finals but many featured in the adult finals too. Hattie Bacon and Cam Simpson became the youngest pair to win the Mixed Doubles event at Riverside, with a combined age of 31. They just pipped Nick Stamp and Carolyn Barry in a close third set to clinch the title.

Youngsters, Hari Chowdhury and Cam Simpson then took on Mike and Jay Barry in the Men’s Doubles. The junior pair raced to an unexpected 3-0 lead with a double break in the first set before the brothers were able to turn it around. Whilst they couldn’t quite do it this year the standard of both Hari and Cam impressed all those watching.

Cam Simpson’s weekend will go down in Riverside folklore not only for his brilliant tennis but also his endurance. Cam played both the Men’s County Closed event, playing four matches and finishing third, and also three finals at the club. His seventh and final match of the weekend was the Men’s singles final against coach, Jay Barry.

Cam raced to win the first set 6-1 with some blistering tennis. It didn’t look good for Jay who was blown away in the first set. Jay had to dig deep to win the next two sets 6-4 7-5. A brilliant match with a great crowd who came down especially for that match due to Cam’s county closed schedule. It was a match which was fitting to end the latest chapter in Riverside Final’s Weekend history.
