Finals Day 2018
Encouraged by the fantastic weather, we were really pleased that so many people came along to watch the finals and that they were rewarded with some very entertaining matches!
An excellent crowd turned up to watch some great tennis!
This year's Finals Day was excellent! Encouraged by the fantastic weather, we were really pleased that so many people came along to watch the finals and that they were rewarded with some very entertaining matches! Many thanks to the Tournament Committee who, yet again, have put in a tremendous amount of work to make sure the competition ran smoothly over the summer & to the Social Committee who produced a fantastic barbecue & some beautiful cakes! The results and photos follow here, thanks to John for again being our official photographer.
Jack won the mini-green title with a straight sets victory over Amber.
A great, three set final in the Ladies Vets saw Sarah and Sal beat Anne & Sally 6-4, 5-7, 6-2.
The mini-orange competition couldn't have been any closer! The first, second and third places all decided by % of points won to points lost. Well done to George, Jiselle, Harry and Charlie for some extremely entertaining matches!
Jamie retained his Men's Singles Title with a victory over Mike in straight sets - 6-2 6-4.
The 12 & Under Boys final saw Harry beat Jacob in a championship tie-break, 10-7!
The girls mini-green final finished with, yes you've guessed it, yet another championship tiebreak! Amber beat Harriet in this one.
In one of the matches of the day, Steve and Ken beat Craig and Bill in three epic sets - 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.
Eila & Carolyn beat Gilly & Kath in three tough sets 6-7, 6-4, 6-2
Yet another junior match finished with a championship tiebreak! Rob beat Jamie 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in the 18 & Under final.
Cameron beat Jake in the 14 & Under Boys singles in another junior, championship tie-break!
Mike & Jamie proved a little too young for Steve & Bill winning the men's doubles title 6-0 6-2.
Charlie won the mini-red singles title beating Rory and Art. in a high quality event.
A great match for the Mixed Vets final saw Gilly and John winning the title for the first time beating Steve and Sarah 6-3 6-4
Oli and Rio got a chance to showcase their talents in the under 17 event. The best two juniors in the club amazed many onlookers with the standard of tennis. Oli came out on top of a really high quality match 7-6 6-1.
One of the matches of the day saw Guy beat Cam in a championship tie-break. The score was 5-7 7-6 11-9!
The last match of a great day was the mixed final. The remaining spectators were treated to some excellent tennis with Mike and Karina eventually winning under floodlights 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
