At Riverside our passionate coaches provide anyone the opportunity to play tennis. Our coaching team pride themselves on running a professional programme, including; group sessions, individual sessions, cardio tennis, coffee mornings and team practises.
Most of these sessions are currently suspended however Jamie Barry and Carolyn Barry are both available for individual lessons. We are hoping to recommence our group coaching in Se
Any profit produced by coaching is put back into player development and facility improvements. This gives our best juniors the opportunity and environment to improve at an affordable price. As well as many of our players playing at county level, we are also very proud that many of our juniors are integrated into adult tennis at the club.
Mini Tennis was invented in order to help juniors develop good technique. At each stage the game is tailored to fit different age groups with different sized courts and balls. This will allow your child to develop in an environment where they are surrounded by players of a similar ability as well as being able to make new friends who are of similar age.
Red ball is the first stage of mini tennis. The ball is 25% bigger than a standard ball and has 50% of the pressure so it is easier to hit. The court is small with a mini net. The main goal at this stage is to develop agility, balance and co-ordination, whilst also developing technique, a basic knowledge of tactics and having fun!
Orange ball is the second stage of mini tennis. The ball is regular sized but still 50% of the pressure of a normal ball. The court is now bigger at 3/4 of the size of a full court. In these sessions players will focus on technique and movement to help adjust to the bigger court.
Green ball is the final stage of mini tennis. Players now play on a full court with a slightly less pressurised ball. Players will continue to enhance their technique in order to deal with the bigger court and higher bouncing balls.
Anyone over 10 will use yellow balls. Played on the full court with regular balls. In yellow ball the demands for each player start to vary more, therefore choosing the right course is important. Our descriptions of the courses will give you an indication of what they have to offer but if you are unsure give us a ring and we will be happy to help!
